The money brought into Harlow as a result of the service's work helps to create a strong local economy, as well as improving the quality of life for those directly involved.
The most recent take-up campaigns have been linked with outreach sessions. The service works with North Essex Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and Harlow Advocacy Service, Rethink, through outreach sessions at the mental health unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital and referrals for patients to be seen at the Advice Centre. There is also a referral scheme via Macmillan nurses and monthly advice sessions at Lister House Medical Centre.
These outreach sessions and home referral visits help increase the take-up of disability and means-tested benefits .
£18,604 was generated by this work between April 2007 and
Sept 2007. There were also successful non-monetary outcomes that achieved results by improving the client's quality of life e.g. through better management of debt and the prevention of homelessness.
Advisers also provide assistance at events organised by Harlow Council's Regeneration Unit in response to local redundancies.
